ALK Releases Latest Version of ALK|FleetSuite including PC*Miler 21. ALK|FleetSuite 21 has been updated with the latest street-level data available including more truck-specific detail than any other database on the market. There are over 460,000 highway miles of truck restrictions and allowances as well as over 5,000 truck weight enhancements. Using ALK|FleetSuite Directions drivers can generate automated turn-by-turn driving directions in real-time to their final destination. These directions can be transmitted with varying degrees of detail to conserve bandwidth and minimize messaging costs. Even at the lowest level of detail, ALK's directions convey the necessary information in a visual format drivers can understand at a glance. Directions are transmitted in XML, and seamlessly delivered in real-time over the drivers' communications systems. ALK|FleetSuite Mapping offers the industry's finest, most versatile, easy-to-read mapping solution for fleet management. Managers can pinpoint the exact location of their fleet based on real-time latitude/longitude information. They can zoom out to any selected point of view, from a city, a county, a state, a region or virtually all of North America. Any size fleet, from a handful of trucks to thousands, can benefit from ALK|FleetSuite Mapping's display. RFID SMART Container Patent Issued to ODIN technologies. ODIN technologies, was recently awarded another RFID patent, which related to a project dubbed the Secure Material Accounted in Real Time (S.M.A.R.T.) container. U.S. Patent No. 7,256,682 relates to, for example, a wide range of embodiments having active and/or passive RFID to provide efficient and accurate visibility of assets as they travel in a closed container. One embodiment of the technology would be for dynamically updating contents of a container to a "parent" tag on the exterior of the container. This would allow a completely accurate inventory of the contents by simply interrogating the tag on the outside of the container. As items are added or removed the SMART container dynamically updates the parent tag, so that anytime the parent tag is interrogated all contents are accurately accounted for without requiring human intervention. WhereNet Corp., a Zebra Technologies company (NASDAQ:ZBRA) announced availability of WhereSoft(TM) Yard version 5.0. Featuring user-defined business rules to automate workflow in medium-to-large yards, this latest release of the WhereNet(R) yard management system (YMS) software serves as an advanced planning and execution system. Depending on the volume and velocity of the yard operation, WhereSoft Yard can be used with or without the benefit of WhereNet's international standards-based real-time locating system (RTLS) technology. WhereSoft Yard 5.0 features the following new capabilities: -- Directed Task Assignment: Customers may now choose between one of two modes when communicating trailer move requests to yard tractor drivers. The original "job list" mode allows drivers to select moves from lists displayed on computers within their tractors. In contrast, with the new "directed assignment" mode, the WhereNet system automatically assigns moves to specific drivers based on move priority, driver status, and driver location relative to the trailer that needs to be moved. This intelligent task assignment increases driver productivity while minimizing travel distance and increasing dock door turns, thereby increasing the overall yard capacity. -- Fast Gate: This new module uses WherePort(TM) devices (short-range magnetic exciters) within gate lanes to detect permanently tagged trailers as they approach the yard gate. The system automatically matches trailers with inbound schedules and populates the check-in form with related information, such as trailer number, carrier, route, trip, load status, priority, trailer type, trailer length, and driver identification. Customers can use the WhereSoft Yard application programming interface (API) to control electronic message boards that instruct drivers where to park inbound trailers as they pull through the gate. -- Easy Dock: This new module was designed specifically for warehouse personnel who are responsible for loading and unloading trailers at dock doors. Easy Dock has large touch-screen buttons and displays that allow dock operators to quickly view doors and update trailer statuses from forklifts or stationary workstations. An optional Easy Dock plug-in allows forklift operators to wirelessly create shippers while loading empty container racks onto outbound trailers.
