It also lists related software (WCS, YMS, LMS, Slotting, Load Optimization, SMS). In addition, this book includes key target "short lists" for common WMS requests.

By having an exhaustive list of solutions – one can focus better & save time. This new publication lists WMS, WCS, ERP, Engineered Labor Standards, Yard Management, Shipment Manifesting, Slotting, and Load Optimization software providers. Very Interesting 2007 WMS Software Industry Facts from IDII:

• Fact 1 - Number of web-based WMS solutions in 2007 is now increased to 17 - where in 2004 it was 10. Both new WMS companies are appearing with web-based applications and a few WMS vendors are taking the expensive plunge to rewrite their software to be web-based and SaaS. IT departments in large and mid-size companies still prefer web-based solutions over GUI solutions.
• Fact 2 - Number of 3PL WMS software providers in 2007 is now increased to 51 - where in 2004 it was 39. Mid-size 3PLs are now requiring WMS with four-wall inventory plus billing, visibility, labor performance, RFID, and advanced warehouse functions.
• Fact 3 - Low Cost WMS solutions are appearing more frequently. Normally, these low cost WMS solutions have basic functionality only.
• Fact 4 - Six supply chain consulting firms are now offering a Warehouse Control System (WCS) to drive and control multi-vendor Material Handling Equipment. Therefore one may obtain WCS software from multiple sources. These include (A) eleven WMS vendors with heavy MHE experience, (B) six consulting firms, or (C) the MHE manufacturers.
• Fact 5 - Voice picking is now standard with most WMS software solutions. Other warehouse tasks will be voice-enabled over the next few years.
• Fact 6 - IDII has identified 13 WMS vendors with extensive suite of software offerings. This is defined as two or more modules that are not related to warehousing nor transportation.

IDII will update this publication on a regular basis - to keep it current - as the supply chain execution software space is a 'moving target' with new software companies appearing, while others are aquired.

This Publication Contains:

Chapter 4 - Page 38 - Shipment Manifesting Systems (SMS)
Chapter 5 - Page 41 - Load Building Software
Chapter 6 - Page 43 - Warehouse Simulation Software
Chapter 7 - Page 45 - Slotting Optimization Software
Chapter 8 - Page 47 - Labor Management System (LMS)
Chapter 9 - Page 50 - Yard Management Systems (YMS)
Chapter 10- Page 53 - Warehouse Control Systems (WCS)

Philip Obal indicates that "these are 'simple' lists dervived from IDII's database and knowledge base that include company name, worldwide office scope, address, phone, email, and website. One may take the full list of WMS solutions in Chapter 1, which indicates where the vendor has physical offices. Most software buyers do seriously consider where the vendors has offices, to maximize vendor support and training. In addition, IDII realizes that many WMS installations have different needs - some need 3PL functionality - some need Material Handling Equipment (MHE) with WCS - while others do not need these."
