Damon Tog notes a Wired blog posting featuring [0]quotes from a juror who
took part in the [1]recent RIAA trial. Some excerpts: "She should have
settled out of court for a few thousand dollars... Spoofing? We're
thinking, "Oh my God, you got to be kidding."... She lied. There was no
defense. Her defense sucked... I think she thought a jury from Duluth
would be naive. We're not that stupid up here. I don't know what the f**k
she was thinking, to tell you the truth."

simpler read-ahead mechanism, the lguest 'Linux-on-Linux'
paravirtualization hypervisor, XEN guest support, KVM smp guest support,
and variable process argument length. SLUB is now the default slab
allocator, there's SELinux protection for exploiting null dereferences
using mmap, XFS and ext4 improvements, PPP over L2TP support. Also the
'lumpy' reclaim algorithm, a userspace driver framework, the O_CLOEXEC
file descriptor flag, splice improvements, a new fallocate() syscall,
lock statistics, support for multiqueue network devices, various new
drivers, and many other minor features and fixes. See the [2]changelog

metric-to-English-units error. In February, the New Horizons probe passed
through the Jupiter system on its way to Pluto, and we saw some
spectacular pictures. Now, the science teams have [1]published detailed
scientific results, along with new images and movies. The probe's
instruments saw clouds form from ammonia welling up from Jupiter's lower
atmosphere, and heat-induced lighting strikes in the polar regions, and
fresh eruptions on the volcanic moon Io. New Horizons also captured the
clearest images ever of the tenuous Jovian ring system, where scientists
spotted clumps of debris that may indicate a recent impact inside the
rings, or some more exotic phenomenon." I bet Neil DeGrasse Tyson will be

go terribly wrong, as Ars Technica argues has been the case with Google's
2005 purchase of web-analytics firm Urchin Software Corp. 'In the wake of
Google's purchase of the company, inquiring customers (including Ars
Technica) were told that support and updates would continue. Companies
that had purchased support contracts were expecting version 6 any day,
including Ars. What really happened is this: Google focused its attention
on Google Analytics, put all updates to Urchin's other products on the
back burner, and rolled out a skeleton support team. Everyone who forked
over for upgrades via a support contract never got them, even though
things weren't supposed to have changed. The support experience has been
awful. Since the acquisition, we have had two major issues with Urchin,
and neither issue was solved by Google's support team. In fact, with one
issue, we were helped up until the point it got difficult, and then the
help vanished. The support team literally just stopped responding.'"

[0]christian.einfeldt writes "Today, [1]Linspire releases version 6.0,
its first new GNU/Linux distro in more than two years. With version 6.0,
Linspire is betting that its business model of including licenses for
proprietary software and formats such as Quicktime, Windows Media Player,
Flash, Real, and Microsoft OOXML will win enough market share among
mainstream Apple and Microsoft users to offset the backlash from
opponents of proprietary software and formats. Version 6.0 also includes
the highly controversial Microsoft patent coverage that has incited
wide-reaching negative press coverage in the Free Open Source Software
press, forums and blogosphere. But from Linspire's perspective, it's all
about those new GNU/Linux users. '"Today we continue the Linspire
tradition by offering the choice of a better overall experience for users
new to desktop Linux,'" said Larry Kettler, President and CEO of
Linspire, Inc. "Linspire 6.0 further bridges the gap between open source
and commercial software, combining the best from each into a single
easy-to-use, familiar and productive operating system."'"
