An anonymous reader writes "The British space agency, BNSC, is
reconsidering its [0]1986 decision to reject all human space missions.
The decision has dominated British space policy ever since, [1]leaving
Britain out of many American and European space projects. The UK is the
only nation in the G8 group of leading economies that does not have a
human space flight program. But space enthusiast groups like the
[2]British Interplanetary Society are trying to persuade the British
government to participate in both manned and unmanned space activities."

[0]mutube writes "Open Source advocate Bruce Perens began [1]petitioning
for support in election to the OSI Executive Board. Because it's a
self-electing board, demonstrable community support is needed to attain a
seat. Perens is standing on a platform of reducing over-representation of
vendors in OSI leadership in favor of developers. In his petition notice,
Perens suggests that recent Open Source involvement by Microsoft could
lead to their being offered a place on the board. With his background
fighting SCO and the Novell-Microsoft patent agreements, Perens would be
a good counter-balance."

TimeZone writes "Apparently, even [0]subliminal exposure to the Apple
logo can make you 'think different.' Researchers at Duke University
subjected participants to subliminal images of the iconic Apple and IBM
logos (during what subjects thought was a visual acuity test), and those
who were shown the Apple logo generated more creative ideas after the
test than did those who were shown the IBM logo. In a second test,
subjects exposed to the Disney logo acted more honestly than those who
saw an E! Channel logo." Here's a [1]preprint of the paper (PDF) due for
publication in the Journal of Consumer Research.
