Q: I like the European models for a wagon/ crossover — but very concerned about reliabilty and safety. Any suggestions?
A: Using Consumer Reports as a touchstone, and assuming you're buying new, the Audi A3 and A4 get recommended scores, though owner satisfaction is below average. BMW 3 and 5 series also are recommended. No Mercedes-Benz model is recommended. VW Jetta, which has offered a wagon, is recommended. Volvo V50 wagon is recommended. The V70 wagon used to be but it's new now and without track record.
