penguin_dance writes "A Texas School District is threatening to [0]sue a
parent over what it terms 'libelous material' or other 'legally
offensive' postings on her web site and are demanding their removal. Web
site owner Sandra Tetley says they're just opinions. The legal firm
sending the demand cited 16 items, half posted by Tetley, the rest by
anonymous commentators to her blog. The alleged libelous postings 'accuse
Superintendent Lynne Cleveland, trustees and administrators of lying,
manipulation, falsifying budget numbers, using their positions for
"personal gain," violating the Open Meetings Act and spying on employees,
among other things.' The problem for the district is that previous courts
have ruled that governments can't sue for libel. So now, in a
[1]follow-up story, the lawyers say the firm 'would file a suit on behalf
of administrators in their official capacities and individual board
members. The suit, however, would be funded from the district's budget.'
So far, Tetley hasn't backed down, although she said she'll 'consult with
her attorneys before deciding what, if anything, to delete.'"

An anonymous reader sends news of the EU following in the footsteps of
the US in that they are contemplating requiring all 27 member states to
[0]collect data on airline passengers and to retain it for up to 13
years. No centralized database would be created; instead states would be
encouraged to store and to share their own data as needed. All states
would have to pass enabling laws before the measure could come into
effect. The rules would not apply to flights entirely within the EU. The
proposal is part of an anti-terrorism package that also includes tighter
laws to control hate speech and bomb-making instructions.

[0]Hugh Pickens writes "Whose laws apply if [1]astronauts from different
countries get into a fight, make a patentable discovery, or damage
equipment belonging to another country while on the International Space
Station? According to the [2]Outer Space Treaty of 1967, ratified by 98
nations, states have legal jurisdiction within spacecraft registered to
them. When the space station was assembled from modules supplied by the
United States, Russia, Japan and the European Space Agency (ESA),
partners rejected an initial proposal that US law should prevail
throughout the space station. "It was agreed that each state registers
its own separate elements, which means that you now have a piece of the
US annexed to a piece of Europe annexed to a piece of Japan in outer
space, legally speaking," said Dr Frans von der Dunk of the
[3]International Institute of Air and Space Law at the University of
Leiden. So what happens if a crime is committed in space? "If somebody
performs an activity which may be considered criminal, it is in the first
instance his own country which is able to exercise jurisdiction," Dr. von
der Dunk added."

Using a soul to beat someone up sounds like sort of a strange hook for a
game, but the quirky title Folklore from Game Republic offers exactly
that. While it may appear to be sort of an RPG/action hybrid a more apt
description would be a beat-em-up with a deep story, a brawler with some
avatar advancement. Combining elements of such disparate titles as Silent
Hill, Pokemon, and Final Fight, with a dash of PS3 motion-control (that
actually works!) on top, the title's pitch stands out in a year already
filled with unique offerings. The gameplay depth you experience in the
first hour of play, unfortunately, is more or less the depth you'll
experience throughout the game. Despite that, there's a lot to like here
- especially for fans of things that go bump in the night. Read on for my

apparently the MLB.com servers are contacted and a license obtained to
