[0]ThinSkin writes "Meet the fit-PC, a tiny 4.7 x 4.5 x 1.5-inch PC that
only draws 5-watts, consuming in a day less power than a traditional PC
consumes in one hour. By today's standards, the fit-PC has [1]very little
horsepower, which makes it apt for web browsing and light applications;
today's games need not apply. Loyd Case over at ExtremeTech [2]reviews
the fit-PC and puts it through its paces, noting that performance is not
this PC's strength, but rather its small size and price tag of $285."

few years ago, but it's [0]alive and kicking in Canada, and an
interesting article at Ars Technica looks at what can happen when there's
vibrant broadband competition. 'Wireless Nomad does things a little
differently. The company is subscriber-owned, volunteer-run, and
open-source friendly. It offers a neutral Internet connection with no
bandwidth caps or throttling, and it makes a point of creating wireless
access points at the end of each DSL connection that can be used, for
free, by the public. Bell Canada this is not.' The ISP has some ambitious
plans for the future, including getting involved in WiMAX."

the Sims 2 forums concerning the inclusion of Sony's SecuROM DRM software
in the latest expansion pack, Bon Voyage. It seems paid customers have
been having problems since day one of release, but EA is only now, 5
weeks later, issuing an [1]official statement on the matter. A lot of
what's in the statement is outright fiction with proven reports of issues
with disabling of disc burning software, optical disc drives, printers,
cameras, system slowdown and even system crashes. [2]Fan responses have
been cold to say the least. Interestingly enough, the expansion pack was
cracked and up on the internet less than 24 hours after its release."

Hot Toddy sends in a link to a story up on Digital World Tokyo about a
[0]more efficient process for manufacturing solar cells. It involves
dropping molten silicon from a height of 14 m; surface tension causes
tiny spheres 1 mm in diameter to form; the silicon crystallizes in the
1.5 seconds of free-fall. The spheres can be mounted on surfaces of any
shape. They capture light from many directions, increasing their solar
efficiency. Kyosemi is the company behind the [1]Sphelar technology. Some
of the pages on this site date to 2003 and the status of most listed
Sphelar products is either "under development" or "engineering sample is

[0]Whip-hero writes in with an Examiner.com story about [1]Google's
rejection of an ad critical of MoveOn.org. The story rehashes the
controversy over MoveOn.org's ad that ran in the NYTimes on the first day
of testimony of Gen. Petraeus's Senate testimony. The rejected ad was
submitted on behalf of Maine Republican Senator Susan Collins its text
is reproduced in the article. The implication, which has been picked up
by many blogs on the other side of the spectrum from MoveOn.org, is that
Google acted out of political favoritism. [2]Not so, says Google's policy
counsel: Google's trademark policy allows any trademark holder to request
that its marks not be used in ads; and MoveOn.org had made such a
request.

[0]theodp sends a follow-up to the discussion here a couple of months
back about Indiana University librarians and students being [1]forced to
use the 'human-powered' ChaCha search engine because IU's President and
one of its Trustees were business buddies of ChaCha CEO (and IU alum)
Scott Jones. Don't be ridiculous, insisted indignant IU officials. It was
ChaCha's ability to fill in gaps in a speech he was writing in 2007 that
convinced IU's CIO that the University had to do a deal with ChaCha.
[2]What a coincidence, notes Valleywag. The need to fill in gaps in a
speech he was writing back in 2005 is what convinced ChaCha CEO Jones
that he had to create ChaCha in the first place. Way to anticipate what
your customers need before they do.
