Clark County schools give coax the 'ax'
http://www.eschoolnews.com/news/showStory.cfm?ArticleID=7422
Clark County licenses its own public TV station, KLVX, in digital format across a gigabit Ethernet network. Since Nevada's Clark County School District (CCSD) in Las Vegas stopped putting coaxial cable TV networks in its schools two years ago, opting instead to stream video service over Internet Protocol (IP) networks, the district has saved both money and time. Such savings, however, are just two of the many ways CCSD is taking advantage of IP-based video. | Full Story

Collaboration and Storage
http://www.eschoolnews.com/resources/reports/collaborative_learning/
With many states and districts moving towards the 1:1 initiative, the question becomes, "How do we make this more cost effective for our school?" Buying personal computers for each student is expensive and difficult to maintain. Creating your own system can bog down your server and cannot be accessed outside of school due to firewall protections. So what is the best solution? | Full Story
Professional Development

Dropout prevention and credit recovery
http://www.eschoolnews.com/resources/reports/creditrecovery/
Educators nationwide are concerned about stemming the tide of high school dropouts. New data suggest the steep economic impact that dropping out of school can have on individuals, and on the economy as a whole. But whether it's for reasons of economic competitiveness, or simply as a moral imperative, giving students alternative paths to graduation is a top priority for many school leaders —and, fortunately, technology can help. | Full Story
Accelerating Technology with eRate Support
http://www.eschoolnews.com/resources/reports/eratefunding/
Since its inception 10 years ago, the $2.25 billion-a-year eRate has provided some $20 billion in telecommunications discounts to eligible schools and libraries. Through the eRate, qualifying institutions can receive up to 90 percent off the cost of internet and telephone services—quite a boon for cash-strapped schools. Thanks largely to this monumental federal program, the percentage of public school classrooms with internet access jumped from 14 percent in 1996 to 95 percent a decade later. | Full Story
