THIS SUMMER'S BIGGEST BLACK BOOK EVENT IN THE MIDWEST TO TAKE PLACE IN CHICAGO AUGUST 25TH

Chicago, IL (BlackNews.com) - The largest gathering of African-American authors and black book clubs in the Midwest will take place August 25th in Chicago at a premiere event hosted by Black Issues Book Review magazine and the National Book Club Conference.

For the first time, those who love black books will have an opportunity to exchange ideas directly with some of their favorite authors. The all-day event will feature readings and discussions with the nation's leading African-American writers, including Tina McElroy Ansa, ReShonda Tate Billingsley, Virginia DeBerry, Donna Grant, Mary B. Morrison, Kimberla Lawson Roby, Lyah Beth LeFlore, Eisa Nefertari Ulen and Terrie Williams.

A special guest appearance will be made by Grammy Award winning performer, Eddie Levert, who will talk about his latest book, I Got Your Back. This book is the second title that he co wrote with his late son, R&B super star Gerald Levert, who died unexpectedly in November of 2006.

"This is truly a unique opportunity to go between the lines with your favorite authors to learn more about their writing styles, their characters and the source of their inspiration as authors," said Ken Smikle, publisher of Black Issues Book Review magazine. "You'll also get information on pursuing your own book projects and how to connect with black book clubs."

The National Book Club Conference was founded by journalist and author, Curtis Bunn, and has been meeting in Atlanta for the past five years. "Coming to Chicago gives NBCC an opportunity to be exposed to a larger audience, and that's a benefit for both authors, book clubs and individual readers," he said.

Thanks to the generous support of sponsors, such as Nielsen Media Research and BlackPR.com, the NBCC Chicago event is reducing the registration fee to just $99. (Those who have already signed up at the higher price can add another person to their registration or receive a refund.) Registrants will be entitled to attend a reception on Friday evening, receive a continental breakfast and lunch on Saturday, attend intimate breakout sessions with all of the authors, and have their books autographed.

There will also be printed sneak previews of forthcoming bestsellers, as well as some surprise guests. The Afrocentric Bookstore is the official book seller for NBCC Chicago, and will provide copies of titles by all participating authors. Display space is available to publishers and self-published authors.

To register or to get schedule and vendor information, visit www.bibookreview.com or call 312-408-1881 in Chicago, or 212-947-8515 in New York.

Now in its ninth year of publication, Black Issues Book Review is the only nationally distributed magazine devoted exclusively to covering the latest news and reviews on black books. BIBR also provides up-to-date news on forthcoming author signings, book fairs and book clubs.
