STORY BEHIND THE SONG
According to David Bellamy, The Bellamy Brothers’ 1979 hit, “You Ain’t Just Whistlin’
David commented, “That song just kind of spilled out...I don’t know where it came from. It was a new experience for me because it was so different.
Some people call that “channel writing,” when the song just spills out and you have no idea where it came from.” I wish all the songs would happen
like that.”

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
QUESTION: I heard somewhere about some of The Stoneman Family writing a book. Do you have any information?
ANSWER: “Pressing On: The Roni Stoneman Story” has just been released. A member of the Stoneman Family band, Roni is best known for her comedy routines on “ Hee Haw,” where she played Ida Lee Nagger aka the Ironing Board Lady. Stoneman was married five times to men who, by her account, were abusers and opportunists. Most heartbreaking is her account of unsuccessfully seeking work as a maid after leaving “Hee Haw.”

ANSWER: “Hello Out There” was a # 8 hit for Carl Belew in 1962. He died in 1990
QUESTION: What was Boxcar Willie’s real name and did he have any hit records?

LETTERS FROM SUBSCRIBERS:
Hi Doug,
This is Lester St. Andrie again and I want to thank you and Bill Morrison for the comments on the Country Music Hall of Fame. Bill said that it was a shame that Dottie West was not in the CMHF. I am very disappointed in where the CMHF has gone. They will be electing Garth, Tim, Kenny and some of the other "Hat Acts" soon and yet they continue to ignore the contributions made to country music by some (lots) of women. I am very prejudiced against some of the so called singers (though they are great song writers) that have and will be elected to the CMHF and yet we have some women who can/could sing with the best of any gender. Why has not Tammy, Dottie, Rose Maddox and other women not been inducted when they contributed so much to our kind of music. Of course I am sure that, sooner or later, Shania will make it. Bah humbug!!!
I wait every day for your letter to arrive so that I can get some good news about my type of country music.
Got a question for you: Was Ken Curtis (Festus) a member of the original Sons of the Pioneers, or did he join later. I heard him sign a song in a western movie that I was watching, and he was good!
Keep up the good work. I think of you as my friend and wish you and yours all the blessings from God that you rightly deserve. Tell Bill that I like his columns also, and read them all the time.
Best wishes,
Lester St. Andrie (The Cajun Cowboy)

MUSICIANS ON THE ROAD:
By: Jack Blanchard
We were up around
An old singing partner, Tony Arbonaise, came to one of the shows.
and he urged us to come and visit his home in Gipsy, West Virginia.
He’s a hard guy to say no to.
We had a new Corvette and Tony insisted upon driving. There were only two bucket seats,
so Misty was on my lap, with her head bumping the roof all the way.
My legs went to sleep. It was getting dark and the narrow road was all ess-curves.
It was foggy and the pavement was wet, but that didn’t stop Tony from driving like Super Dave.
His foot went back and forth from the gas pedal to the brake trying to maintain 70 mph on the hairpin turns.
There was a woman front of us with kids in the car. Tony was on their bumper, scaring them to death.
The kids horrified faces pleaded with us from their back window. Tony didn’t seem to care.
That’s when I knew this side trip was a mistake, and that he was nuts.
I got carsick and yelled at him until he stopped, and I drove the rest of the way.
I don’t know how Misty fit into the little space behind the seats, but she was not about to sit on his lap.
Gipsy WV was just a wide spot in the road, where Tony and his wife owned a little grocery/convenience store.
We slept in an old brown bedroom up over the store.
The tightly wound stairway to the upper floor had steps too small to handle a normal foot.
I called to Tony in the night: “Hey, how do I get to the bathroom?’
He yelled back: “Take the stairs. I know you can do it.”
We couldn’t wait to escape from there, but we did enjoy the return trip through the winding mountain roads,
in our sports car with the top off, on a cool, crisp autumn afternoon.
Big fat woodchucks were on the sides of the roads. Later, I was telling an audience about it,
and forgot what they called those creatures. I asked the people:
“What do they call those little animals that sit up and grin at you from the side of the road?”
Some wise guy from the back of the crowd yelled: "

Thought For Today: May your days be many and your troubles be few. May all God's blessings descend upon you. May peace be within you may your heart be strong. May you find what you're seeking wherever you roam. (An old Irish blessing, that also works for us hillbilly’s). Have you told anyone that you love them lately? Well…make someone’s day. Call them, or go see them, and tell them you just wanted them to know how important they are in your life, and “I love you.” The world today needs a lot of that. Try it…it’s painless.
