Analysts give re-tooled CA another chance

I stopped tracking Computer Associates (CA) about seven years ago.
These were the days of the "bad" CA - a company known for its hard
sell tactics and cocky, abrasive attitude. I had no desire to waste
my time covering a train-wreck.

However, in November, 2006, I came across CA's Advanced Systems
Management. This product interested me, so I wrote a report on it and
reestablished contact with the company. As I researched, I learned
that CA had undergone tremendous changes. The company now focuses on
building products that support critical governance, management, and
security processes. To learn more about the goings-on at CA, I
attended CA's recent industry analyst symposium in Rye, New York. The
following are my meeting notes.

Agentless monitoring vs agent-based monitoring

The argument over agent-based versus agentless monitoring has been
going on for years. Initially, the advantages of agent-based
monitoring overwhelmed the perceived advantages of lower cost, ease
of implementation and maintenance touted in favor of agentless
monitoring.

However, all this is changing with the emergence of products from new
and aggressive companies with agentless systems monitoring technology
addressing these early weaknesses.
